2022 Summer Pledge Event

We have faced the worst pandemic of our time, that isolated us from one another as we sheltered in place for months. The toll of Covid-19 pandemic reverberates across the world and its aftermath will remain with us for a long time. Kamukamu Learning Foundation, like many other nonprofit organizations, relies heavily on fundraising to carry out its mission. As shelter in place measures were implemented across the nation, event venues closed resulting in the cancelation of all fundraising plans. The new normal that emerged during Covid-19 halted all in-person meetings. For Kamaukamu, an organization that relies on donor interactions, this shift impacted our mission tremendously. After almost two years of dealing with COVID, we held our first fundraising event on July 23, 2022 at Carolyn Carlson and Ed Dee’s (former Kamukamu board members) house. Having the event outside on a deck overlooking the Puget Sound waters on a beautiful summer day, with Ugandan music playing in the background, was awesome!

We extend our deepest thanks to our supporters who attended the event and for their generous donations.  The goal was to raise $8,000 for a school “bus” boat for Bukasa Secondary School located on Bukasa Island in Lake Victoria.  With the help of those present, plus online donations, we managed to raise almost half the amount!

We also had an opportunity to inform and educate our supporters about the work we are doing and the part they play in it. The president, Stephen Ssemaala shared stories of his recent trip to Uganda.  Specifically, he talked about the disruption of education due to COVID-19. 2019 Summer Pledge Event

On Saturday, August 17th Kamukamu Learning Foundation held its annual summer fundraising event at Board Members Hank and Helen’s home in Olympia, WA. Guests were welcomed with delicious appetizers, an open bar, a beautiful water view (complete with seals and their pups!), and serenaded by the Jazz Birds. Time was spent mingling/getting to know each other while enjoying a perfect Pacific Northwest Summer afternoon. At the end of the event, guests gathered in the main room to learn more about Kamukamu Learning Foundation. Kamukamu Secretary Helen did introductions, Kamukamu President Stephen talked about his reason for starting Kamukamu and gave an update on completed projects, Kamukamu Board Member Brenda then gave the closing remarks. At the end of the evening, one guest was the lucky winner and got to go home with a beautiful Wine Gift Basket. It was an enjoyable and successful event, and we were able to raise over $4,000 in donations! Kamukamu’s Board is extremely grateful for the guests who attended our event, and for the continuous generosity from our supporters. Thank you!
