Our Current Project(s)
Mugomba Primary School – Teacher Housing
Mugomba is a government-sponsored school, under the Universal Primary Education (UPE) program. The school helps mostly students of disadvantage (i.e. low-income, orphaned, etc.). Under the UPE, Mugomba receives government grants, but the financial assistance is too little to address all of the school’s needs or resolve the specific challenges this type of school has. Through community mobilization with parents, Mugomba has attempted to construct housing for its teachers. Unfortunately, due to limited funds, the school was unable to complete the project. Mugomba has asked for Kamukamu’s help in completing the construction. Providing adequate housing to teachers is essential for keeping qualified teachers working for Mugomba. Teacher housing significantly decreases teacher absenteeism, and increases teacher retention.
Project Cost: $5,000

Nakalanda Primary School – New Classrooms!
Kamukamu began working with Nakalanda in 2016. Since then, we have financed the construction of teacher housing, classrooms, and a principal’s office (see our “Completed Projects” page for further details on these projects). This year, Nakalanda has asked us to replace a dilapidated building (pictured below) on their campus. The building currently houses 4 classrooms. Nakalanda is responsible for educating approximately 750 students. As you can see from the pictures below, some of these students are having to attend classes under a tree because the current building is inhabitable.
Project Cost: $20,000
Kamukamu’s hope is to demolish the building and build a brand new one in its place. If you would like to support this project, please consider visiting our “Donate” tab or purchasing a ticket to our April 12th Benefit Auction (buy tickets).
